About Pinpoint Creative Studio

Artist Statement

Pop art iconography is at the core of the Pinpoint Creative style, and the presentation layer is all about revealing something that people have never seen or considered. Icons often hold qualities of both good and evil, and those essential human qualities are embodied in all of us. By exploring themes that are culturally relevant in a pointillism style force the viewer to “zoom out” and consider the whole piece- similar to how we have to consider each character or theme.

Being iconic does not mean famous or extraordinary, it means that the subject is worthy and capable of making the  people feel something. When you spend 20-30 hours of dedicated time with precision materials working on a single piece, you are able to build and destroy what you think you know about the subject. The journey from just a single point to understanding the whole picture is what drives a Pinpoint Creative.

Artist Background

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, I attended the Creative And Performing Arts high school studying Visual Arts. During that time I was able to develop the pointillist style that I use in my work today. Early on, I became fascinated with taking iconic images and augmenting the appearance by using a wide variety of strange materials. Originally I worked with colored marshmallows because they were so affordable to buy in bulk, so soon after sorting the colors a self portrait became the first step in the journey to Pinpoint Creative Studio. As the candy theme developed and I was able to see people’s reactions to the strange medium, which drove so much of the impact of the work.

From there, I was focused on bringing originality to the art scene via unique materials paired with characters who were iconic to me. Skittles enshrined Trayvon Martin and Afro Samurai, and then Huey Freeman was captured in chocolate M&Ms. The use of non traditional materials continues in order to push the work into unexplored grounds- including plastic and metal push pins, chess pieces, gun shells, dice, and others. I aim to bring something new to the art world with these unique materials because when the people see the work it makes a lasting impression and makes us all reconsider what it truly the limit of what we can create. Through decades of stylistic development, Pinpoint Creative Studio has arrived with a focus on pushing the frontier of a mondern pointillism pop art style.
